... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this
evening...

* locations... Maryland's Eastern Shore through the northern two
thirds of Delaware as well as the Philadelphia Metro area and
across the southeast one half of New Jersey.

* Hazard types... a period of sleet then long duration snow.

* Snow accumulations... 4 to 8 inches.

* Timing... rain will change to a wintry mix of sleet and snow
before dawn then change over to all snow this morning. Snow
will continue through most of the daylight hours... possibly
heavy at times.

* Temperatures... in the lower 30s.

* Wind... becoming north and gusting to 20 mph during the day
Thursday.

* Visibility... may lower briefly to one quarter mile later this
morning into the afternoon.

* Impacts... widespread and substantial impacts on travel are
expected beginning early tomorrow morning and especially
impacting the morning commute.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This Winter Storm Warning means that significant amounts of snow
are expected. The snow will make travel very hazardous or
impossible.

... A band of heavy snow across much of the Philadelphia Metro
area...

As of 850 am, National Weather Service Doppler radar and surface
reports indicated an intensifying band of heavy snow. The most
intense portion of the band was located from Chester County to
Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. The band is moving to the
east northeast to Monmouth County, and will also overspread
portions of southwestern New Jersey through 10 am.

The snowfall rates within the heaviest portion of the band will
exceed an inch per hour, which will reduce the visibilities to one
quarter mile or less. The combination of increased snowfall rates
and temperatures falling below freezing will result in hazardous
Road conditions.

If you must travel, slow down. Use extra caution especially on
bridges and other elevated surfaces and be prepared for poor Road
conditions and visibilities.
